How to Raise Self Esteem For Your Children
Childhood has its difficult moments for everyone, but for a little one with low self esteem it is even more trying and confusing. If you want to know how to raise self esteem for your children, consider the following strategy to lift them up.
First of all, nothing is going to work overnight. Self esteem is a complicated issue that takes some time to transform. Once you begin trying to increase the self love that your child feels for himself or herself, remain consistent even if it doesn’t seem to be working at first. Change may be slow to come, but is well worth the payoff in the end.
The basic premise of this strategy for building self esteem is that success breeds more success, and success breeds confidence. The more your child can feel the sense of satisfaction and pride that comes with accomplishing something truly worthwhile, they will feel much better about themselves.
They will also have a growing desire to accomplish more things, which will in turn produce a larger sense of pride and self worth. It is all headed in the right direction, even if self esteem remains to be a problem for some time to come.
So, your job is to find something that will interest them and set a goal. If they are into science you might guide them in creating the best project for a science fair or display at school. If they are an avid reader, maybe they could study for and participate in a spelling bee. If they are athletic, maybe they want to try out for the cheerleading squad or practice to make it onto the football, soccer, or volleyball team.
Whatever it is that interests your child, really encourage them to set a small and work toward it. Once it is reached set another. At every milestone along the way make sure to lift them up and tell them how proud you are of them and how amazing their efforts are.
This is a simple way to learn how to raise self esteem, but it can be very effective for kids that truly commit to the goals and feel the rewarding sense of self pride afterward.
